Hong Kong Police have contributed to the shutting down of a major transnational drug syndicate in Indonesia.
Indonesian, Australian and American police also participated in the operation that saw five men arrested and a warehouse and a drug laboratory shut down.
Hong Kong Police identified the head of the syndicate and his involvement in setting up a drug laboratory in Malang in East Java. The warehouse was in Banyuwangi. A large quantity of chemicals and equipment for producing ecstasy was seized. The syndicate head is believed to have ties with Hong Kong and the Mainland.
The drugs produced are believed to be destined for markets in Southeast Asia, Australia and Hong Kong. The laboratory is believed to be capable of producing 36,000 ecstasy tablets of $2.88 million in retail value in every three days.
