Jail extended for street swindler

*
Hong Kong Police

A 42-year-old woman convicted for street deception had her jail term extended to 36 months at the District Court today after Police applied for an enhanced sentence.

On July 21 a 44-year-old woman was approached by the defendant who asked for the whereabouts of a doctor who had supernatural powers. The victim was persuaded to put her cash and valuables in a plastic bag for blessing, but later found them stolen. She caught the defendant with the help of a passer-by.

Police then arrested the two-way permit holder and recovered the valuables. She was charged with one count of obtaining property by deception.
