A 42-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man have been jailed for up to 30 months for fake-banknote related offences by the District Court.

The Filipino woman was arrested in Central after she tried to buy food in two shops with two counterfeit $500 notes on February 10. She was found in possession of 11 other fake notes.

The Pakistani man helped her get the fake notes in Shenzhen. He was deported in 2001 and again 2002 and was arrested at his Tsim Sha Tsui home.

On October 28 the woman was convicted of two counts of passing counterfeit notes and one count of custody of counterfeit notes, while the man was convicted of breaching the deportation order and unlawfully remaining in Hong Kong.

The woman was jailed 16 months and the man 30 months.
