27 netted for supermarkets bribe
*
ICAC

The ICAC has arrested 27 people, including eight senior staff of two supermarket chains, for alleged bribery in relation to the supply of food and flowers.

A senior executive and eight supermarket executives, a shareholder in a consultancy firm, an investment company shareholder, and 16 food and flower suppliers were arrested.

The shareholders and suppliers are alleged to have offered bribes to the two supermarkets' executives. In return, the executives allegedly showed favour to them in respect of their supply of fresh food, roasted meat and flowers.

Inquiries also alleged that one of the arrested executives corruptly assisted some of the food suppliers in securing contracts to operate fresh and cooked food counters at one of the two supermarkets.

Inquiries are continuing.
