Ready for duty: Chief Executive Donald Tsang inspects a contingent of police officers at a passing-out parade at the Police Training School. |
Police officers of all ranks have faced challenges head-on and have lived up to their values and reputation in the policing of major events and international conferences, and in maintaining law and order, making Hong Kong one of the world's safest cities, Chief Executive Donald Tsang says.
Mr Tsang was speaking after reviewing a passing-out parade at the Police Training School today.
He said he was deeply proud of the Hong Kong Police Force which is well trained and has a reputation for excellence in serving the community and maintaining law and order.
He said Hong Kong had experienced difficult times in recent years and people facing the economic downturn had taken their anger and dissatisfaction to the street, some even venting their anger at law-enforcement officers.
Even faced with this difficult situation, Police officers have been unrelenting in their efforts to maintain social stability and harmony, he said.
"With the ever-increasing economic activities in Hong Kong, the Force plays an important part in ensuring the safety of guests and visitors from all over the world, and ensuring the smooth flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic at boundary checkpoints," he said.
Mr Tsang believed that improvements in personnel training and work culture were key to making today's Police Force a highly efficient and professional organisation.
Police serve with pride and care
With the trend of continuous learning and the force's core value of providing the best possible customer services, he said the force would be able to meet the demands and expectations of society.
"I am fully confident that our well-educated, well-equipped, well-trained and highly-disciplined Police Force will establish a fine organisational culture commensurate with time and serve the community well 'with pride and care'", he said.
Ten probationary inspectors and 88 recruit constables passed out of the Police Training School today after completing their highly demanding and professional training.
