A 43-year-old taxi driver died and a 34-year-old light goods vehicle driver was injured in an early morning traffic accident in Kwun Tong.

At about 2:20am, the light goods vehicle was travelling eastbound uphill along Hiu Kwong Street. Near Sau Mau Ping upper bus terminus, it reportedly lost control and collided with the taxi travelling downhill westbound along the same street in the opposite lane.

Firemen rescued the taxi driver who was trapped inside his car after the crash. He was sent to United Christian Hospital where he was certified dead at 3:18am.

Kowloon East's special traffic investigation team are following up. Anyone with information is urged to contact the investigating officers at 2305 7500.
