42 netted in anti-triad raids
*
Hong Kong Police

Police arrested 42 people for triad and gambling related offences during a two-day intelligence-based anti-triad operation targeting a triad group active in Tseung Kwan O.

Police officers arrested 27 people for gambling offences at a restaurant in King Lam Estate after more than $8,000 cash and some mahjong playing equipment were seized in the morning on July 28.

In addition, five people were arrested for illegal gambling at a park in the estate after $160 cash and some playing cards were seized.

Meanwhile, Police officers mounted raids on July 28 and 29 in Tseung Kwan O and Wong Tai Sin where 10 people were arrested for triad-related offences, including blackmail, claiming to be a member of triad society and inviting others to become member of triad society.

The 32 people arrested for gambling offences were charged and had appeared in Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts on July 29 while the remaining suspects have been released on Police bail pending further enquiries.
