Hammering home the message: The design competition has attracted creative youngsters who will create their own anti-drug publicity materials.

Five teams of young people have been shortlisted as finalists in a design competition for the Hong Kong Jockey Club Drug InfoCentre, which aims to recruit creative youths to make their own anti-drug publicity materials, the Security Bureau says.

The competition is jointly organised by the bureau's Narcotics Division, the Action Committee Against Narcotics and Commercial Radio 2.

The nine-month-long project will press home anti-drug messages to steer young people away from drugs and encourage them to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Today, the 30 participants in 10 teams who joined the competition watched an interactive film on youngsters encountering drugs. They learned more of the harmful effects of drug abuse at the centre, and then answered questions designed to test their knowledge.

The judging panel comprises ACAN Preventive Education & Publicity Sub-committee member Ip Kwok-him, Acting Commissioner for Narcotics Kitty Yu, Commercial Radio's Director of External Affairs Clarice Chiu, and entertainers Alex Fong, Jade Kwan and Toby Leung.

A disc jockey interviewed the finalists, and encouraged them to talk about their experiences and feelings. They will be broadcast on Commercial Radio 2 from Friday onwards.

Award ceremony in December

Entering the final round of the competition, they will visit a drug education and counselling centre early next month and join a sharing session with rehabilitated drug abusers.

The young people will produce anti-drug publicity materials such as short films, songs, leaflets, an anti-drug advertisement, T-shirts and a slogan.

An award presentation ceremony will be held in December and the items the five teams produce will be exhibited in the centre.
