Hong Kong and Mainland police have shut down two trans-national drug trafficking syndicates, arresting 29 people and seizing $122 million in drugs.

One syndicate was shipping ketamine from the Middle East to the Mainland via Hong Kong. Eight people, including the syndicate head, were arrested in Guangdong and 400kgs of the drug seized in two containers which were transported from Guangxi to Guangdong.

Searches at syndicate members' homes in Guangdong led to the seizure of 370kgs of liquid methamphetamine and guns. The drugs originated in India, destined for Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Follow-up enquiries by Guangdong police led to the arrest of another 12 syndicate members, all Mainlanders.

The other syndicate was smuggling heroin and ice from the Mainland to Hong Kong and other places overseas. Shenzhen officers arrested two Mainlanders, a Vietnamese and a Hong Kong man in a Shenzhen hotel, seizing 7kgs heroin.

Officers then raided a Shenzhen flat arresting four Hong Kong citizens and a Mainlander, seizing 56kgs of ice. Simultaneous action in Guangzhou saw the seizure of 5kgs of ice.
