115kg heroin seized in joint HK-Australia effort

*
Hong Kong Police

The Hong Kong Police and the Australian Federal Police mounted a joint operation resulting in the seizure of 115 kilograms of heroin in Australia on May 12.

Officers from two jurisdictions had identified two suspect containers that had arrived in Australia in February. They arrived in Adelaide but were later transferred to Sydney.

Yesterday, 105kg of heroin was found concealed in the two containers' roofing.

Further enquiries led to the seizure of another 10kg of heroin. The drugs have a potential street value of more than A$60 million in Australia.

The Australian Federal Police arrested four men, including a 26-year-old Hong Kong citizen, in Australia yesterday.

In Hong Kong, Narcotics Bureau officers also arrested a 29-year-old man in the New Territories early this morning. No drug seizures were made.
