Illicit telecom operator neutralised

Office of the Telecommunications Authority

The Office of the Telecommunications Authority has shut down an illegal external telecom operator in Kwun Tong, following the seizure of two sets of installations and termination of eight telephone lines.

 

The authority warned the provision of external telecom services without a licence warrants a $100,000 fine and five years jail.

 

Last year it conducted 16 raids against illegal external operators and seized 90 pieces of equipment worth $1.5 million. A recent offender was fined $20,000.
