Counterfeit sportswear outlet shut down
*

Customs officers have arrested two men and seized $200,000 worth of counterfeit products from a Kwai Chung sportswear outlet.

Officers raided a premises in an industrial building on Tai Lin Pai Road yesterday, arresting the pair, aged 23 and 35, and seizing 550 pairs of sneakers, 100 bags and 50 sportswear items.

The outlet was on short-term lease, and newspaper supplements publicised it as selling popular sportswear and sneakers at bargain prices. However, the prices were not low, with fake sneakers selling from $150 to $600. Officers also found the counterfeit products were mixed with genuine ones to cheat customers.

Anyone who contravenes the Trade Descriptions Ordinance faces a $500,000 fine and five years jail. Consumers are urged to report any suspected counterfeiting activities on 2545 6182.
