190 hazardous toy guns seized
*
Customs & Excise Department

About 190 unsafe toy bubble guns have been seized from a stall at the Lunar New Year Fair in Victoria Park.

The Customs & Excise Department, having consulted the Government Laboratory, said the battery-operated guns do not comply with toy safety requirements. It believes they were procured from outside Hong Kong. About 300 have been sold at the fair.

Under the Toys & Children's Products Safety Ordinance it is an offence to supply, manufacture or import unsafe toys. Those who do so face a $500,000 fine and two years' jail.
