A 30-year-old man has been jailed eight months for dealing with crime proceeds. He was convicted and sentenced at Eastern Magistracy today. He pleaded guilty on December 31.

The court heard that a local bank reported to Police on October 5 that a customer was deceived via a bogus email allegedly from the bank. Police arrested him the next day and charged him with dealing with crime proceeds.

Enquiries found he gave his bank account number to an unknown person met online to receive $42,300. As instructed by the person, the man deducted 5% of the money he received and remitted the remaining $40,185 to an account in Russia.
