Customs seizes drugs worth $2.6m

Customs officers arrested four men aged 36 to 51 and seized 1,800 ecstasy tablets and six kilograms of "ice" with a total value of $2.6 million in three operations.

 

On January 2, airport Customs officers found 1,000 ecstasy tablets in two parcels sent from Holland. Following investigations, a 47-year-old man was arrested and another 800 ecstasy tablets were seized from his Mong Kok flat. The street value of the seizure was about $200,000.

 

Seperately, they seized six kilograms of "ice" worth $2.4 million during two operations at the airport on January 5 and 7.

 

Maximum penalty: life imprisonment, $5m fine

On January 5, Customs officers stopped two men, aged 50 and 51, and found 4kg of "ice" worth about $1.6 million on the older man. They were about to leave for New Zealand.  

 

In an operation today, a 36-year-old man who allegedly carried 2kg of ice worth about $800,000 was arrested on a package tour to Japan.

 

Drug trafficking is a serious offence with a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a $5 million fine.
