Three former Tourism Board staff have admitted making $7,700 worth of false entertainment and taxi expense claims.
Former board manageress Elsie Wan, 56, and former officers Luk Chi-man, 24, and Choi Sau-yee, 27, made the admission at Eastern Magistracy today after being arrested by the Independent Commission Against Corruption.
Wan pleaded guilty to seven counts of an agent using a document with intent to deceive his principal, while Luk and Choi each admitted to two similar offences. Wan and Luk also pleaded guilty to one joint charge of conspiracy to defraud.
Magistrate Johnny Chan adjourned sentencing to January 19. He remanded Wan in custody and granted Luk and Choi $5,000 bail.
The investigation arose from a corruption complaint alleging that the claimants' supervisors corruptly condoned false claims of reimbursement of expenses submitted by some board staff. Subsequent inquiries revealed the fraudulent claims.
