Lantau bus crash claims one life

*
Hong Kong Police

Police are investigating a Lantau traffic accident in which a 32-year-old bus driver was killed and six passengers aged from 23 to 46 were injured.

Shortly after 4.20am today, the man was driving the coach along the North Lantau Highway towards the airport. Just past Penny's Bay, the driver apparently lost control of the coach, reportedly driving up an elevated lay-by for police vehicles, cutting across three lanes and crashing into the central divider before overturning and ramming nearby railings.

On impact, the driver was thrown from the coach onto the highway in the opposite lanes. He was certified dead at the scene.

Six passengers, three women and three men aged from 23 to 46, were injured. Four were sent to Princess Margaret Hospital and two to Yan Chai Hospital.

Three are in serious condition and one remains stable. One man was discharged and another woman is receiving treatment.

The New Territories South traffic investigation team is looking into the accident. Anyone who saw it should contact the Police at 2611 3200 or 3271.
