Database to enhance emergency response

*
Hong Kong Police

Police have launched a database on signage and identifiable installations in country parks on Hong Kong Island to help pinpoint caller location in an emergency. The project will be trialled for six months.

The index contains details, including grid reference and access routes, of all 6,000 signposts in the parks. Callers are only required to read out the number or marking on any signpost they can see in the vicinity.

Apart from acting as a useful measure to enhance police response to country park robberies, the index will also improve response to other emergency reports.

People are urged to use the service in emergencies only.
