Future leaders: Deputy Commissioner of Police Gordon Fung presents bronze prizes to recipients in the Award for Young People Scheme.

*

More than 500 Police officers and Junior Police Call members have received bronze prizes for their enthusiasm and outstanding performances in the Award for Young People Scheme.

Congratulating them at a prize presentation ceremony today, Deputy Commissioner of Police Gordon Fung said the scheme enables young people to strengthen their interpersonal communication skills, promote self-control and develop interests and experience.

"This training provides a very solid platform and paves the way for young persons to set goals and more significantly to achieve them and along the way become 'mentors' to other young persons in our community," he said.

Launched in 1961, the scheme builds young people's confidence and leadership.

Participants aged between 14 and 25 will be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals for successfully completing specified activities in skills, service, expedition and physical recreation categories.
