A 29-year-old man has been jailed two years and three months for possessing another person's ID card and handling stolen goods.
Leung Tsz-chun, 29, placed advertisements in newspapers offering quick cash for people's passports.
Immigration Department investigators suspected he kept passports he bought in his Yau Ma Tei premises, and in February intercepted him when he arrived from the Mainland at Lo Wu checkpoint.
They seized 17 passports - 13 Hong Kong SAR, three British National (Overseas), and one American passport - a Hong Kong ID card and a Mainland Entry Card for Hong Kong & Macau Residents.
Investigators also found payment receipts for placing newspaper advertisements and some mobile phone SIM cards.
Investigations found one Hong Kong passport, the ID card and the Mainland entry card had been reported stolen in two burglary cases.
Leung was charged with one count of handling stolen goods and possessing another person's ID card without reasonable excuse. He was sentenced to two years prison on the first charge and six months for the second in District Court. Three months of the second charge will run concurrently with the first.
