Altar angel: Police are seeking the parents or relatives of this baby girl abandoned in a Yau Ma Tei church.

Police are seeking the parents or relatives of a baby girl abandoned in Yau Ma Tei last night. She is about a week old and weighs 2.5kgs, and has a birthmark on her left back.

She was wearing a white jumpsuit and was covered in white and blue towels when found. Some words (Cheung Shui-lam, Cannie or Connie), believed to be the baby's name, were found on the blue towel. A packet of nappies was also found beside her.

At about 6.45pm, a cleaning worker found her in the reception area of the Kowloon Methodist Church on Gascoigne Road. The baby was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for examination and is in good condition.

Closed-circuit television footage shows a woman aged about 30 carrying the baby into the church at about 6.40pm, and leaving alone. She was about 1.5 metres tall, of middle build with long hair. She was wearing a dark fisherman's hat, a light-coloured short-sleeve T-shirt, grey trousers and slippers.

Police urge anyone with information to call 2359 8200.
