Hong Kong Island traffic police will mount a road safety campaign from August 2 to 7 at traffic black spots in the Wan Chai and Eastern Districts. Jaywalkers and drivers found committing traffic offences will be prosecuted without prior warning.
Road junctions at Fleming Road and Hennessy Road, Hennessy Road and Percival Street, King's Road and Tong Shui Road, and Shau Kei Wan Road and Tai On Street are traffic black spots in the two districts.
In the first half of this year, there were 1,396 traffic accidents involving casualties on Hong Kong Island, including 12 fatal cases. Among them, 147 cases involved pedestrians, of which about 58% were caused by jaywalking.
Police remind road users that jaywalking is an offence liable to a maximum penalty of $2,000.
