Two Sai Kung residents have been charged with one count of cultivating cannibis and one count of obstructing a police officer. They will appear in Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts tomorrow.

Acting on information, Wong Tai Sin District Special Duty Squad officers broke into the pair's village house in Mau Ping Village on July 6. They found 22 cannabis plants, 19 cannabis buds, some suspected cannabis seeds and ground and half-dried cannabis leaves on the rooftop and balcony.

The cannabis leaves, also known as marijuana, have a street value of about $75,000.

Police arrested the 45-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman inside the house for cultivating cannabis plants and obstructing police officers.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, the maximum penalty for growing marijuana is a fine of $100,000 and 15 years' imprisonment.
