Man charged for blackmailing bus drivers
*
Hong Kong Police

Police have charged a 21-year-old man with one count of blackmail for extorting public light bus drivers.

During an anti-triad operation on July 2 in Tai Po, New Territories North and Tai Po District crime officers arrested the man and a 29-year-old man for extorting public light bus drivers operating on a route between Yuen Long and Tai Po.

The man charged with blackmail will appear in the Fanling Magistrates' Courts tomorrow while the 29-year-old man has been released on bail pending further investigations.

Initial enquiries revealed that the public light bus drivers suffered frequent disturbances unless they agreed to pay a monthly fee of $500.

The officers successfully identified the two men who were suspected to be involved in extorting from the drivers. They were arrested by the officers in Tai Po and Sheung Shui at about 4pm on Friday, for offences including blackmail and claiming to be members of a triad society.
