500 netted in anti-triad operation

Police have arrested 499 people in a three-day anti-triad operation in Kowloon West, which concluded last night.

 

Starting in the early hours of June 23, the operation was aimed at curbing triad revenue generating activities related to vice, illegal gambling, dangerous drugs, pornographic and pirated discs, contraband goods, contraband cigarettes and red oil stations in the area.

 

Police have seized about 15,700 contraband cigarettes, 158,200 pirated and pornographic discs, 1,300 litres of red oil, $29,600 worth of dangerous drugs and 12,200 items of pirated goods, in addition to 35,000 cash and other miscellaneous properties. The total value of the seizures is estimated at about $4.99 million.

 

Among the 499 arrestees, 206 are holding two-way-permits, six are holding Chinese passports and two are holding Thai passports.

 

Officers from the Immigration, Customs & Excise, Labour, Home Affairs, Electrical & Mechanical Services and Buildings Departments, the Television & Entertainment Licensing Authority and the Office of the Telecommunications Authority were also involved in the operation.
