A 44-year-old man died after being struck by a car on Nathan Road early this morning. Police have arrested a 19-year-old man for dangerous driving causing death after he fled the accident scene.

At about 4.26am, Police received a report that a black private car travelling southbound near 380 Nathan Road had hit the 44-year-old man. He was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he was certified dead at 4.43am.

Police officers found a black private car with a damaged windscreen at the junction of Fuk Wa and Maple Streets. It had been stripped of its plates which were later found on Wong Chuk Street.

Two men were seen leaving the car and boarding a taxi which headed towards Tai Po Road.

Police appealed to the taxi driver who drove the two wanted men and anyone who witnessed the accident or had information to offer to contact the investigating officers on 2773 5200.

They since found and arrested the 19-year-old driver. He has been released on bail at $5,000 and is required to report back to Police in one week.

Kowloon West's Special Investigation Team for traffic is in charge of the case.
