*
Hong Kong Police

Police have helped shutdown an international drug syndicate in a joint operation with authorities in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Malaysia.

Thirteen suspects have been arrested and US$500 million worth of methamphetamine seized.

Since last year, authorities have investigated a group of Asian criminals active in the manufacture of methamphetamine and trafficking of heroin, cannabis and ecstasy to countries in Asia and Europe, and Australia.

During the investigation, Hong Kong's Narcotics Bureau officers travelled to Australia and Fiji.

Fijian Police arrested six people in Suva today, including four Hong Kong men, in a drug manufacturing centre. Five kilograms of methamphetamine and some semi-finished products and chemicals capable of producing 1,000kgs of methamphetamine were seized.

Six syndicate members, including a Hong Kong man and woman were also arrested in Malaysia, while in Hong Kong, Police raided several locations and arrested a 40-year-old man for money laundering in a North Point flat. Some $30 million and a large quantity of jewellery and other valuables were seized.
