Men fined for urinating in public place
*
Food & Environmental Hygiene Department

Two men, aged 44 and 62, have been fined $1,500 each at North Kowloon Magistracy for urinating in public places in Mong Kok on April 9.

The defendants were found urinating near Sai Yee Street and Fa Yuen Street during a blitz operation on April 9.

The court heard that a closed circuit television camera had been installed in the side lane of 61-91 Sai Yee Street in December under a Team Clean pilot scheme to monitor blackspots' hygiene conditions.

Cases of obeying the call of nature were discovered occasionally via the closed circuit television. Officers from the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department subsequently launched an operation in the vicinity and arrested the two offenders.

Offenders liable to $5k fine on first conviction

The department urged members of the public not to urinate in public places, adding that officers will continue to inspect rear and side lanes and prosecute anyone who dirtied those places.

Under the Public Cleansing & Prevention of Nuisances Regulation, any person obeying the call of nature in a public place is liable to a maximum fine of $5,000 on first conviction and $10,000 for repeated convictions.
