Police have arrested 506 people -  213 men and 293 women - in a three-day anti-crime operation in Kowloon West in a  bid to curb triad revenue-generating activities.

Ranging in age from 16 to 80 years, the people were arrested for offences involving contraband cigarettes or goods, illegal gambling, managing vice establishments, possession of dangerous drugs, pornographic articles and unmarked oil, and breach of conditions of stay.

Police seized around 97,500 contraband cigarettes, 178,000 pornographic VCDs/DVDs, 2,900 litres of unmarked oil, 2,200 goods that infringed copyright and 84 unauthorised decoders. The total value of the seized goods is estimated at about $3.13 million.

Kowloon West Crime Headquarters coordinated the exercise that involved Police Tactical Unit officers and staff from Mongkok, Yau Tsim, Sham Shui Po and Kowloon City.

Immigration, Customs & Excise, Labour, Home Affairs, Electrical & Mechanical Services and Buildings Departments played a role, along with the Television & Entertainment Licensing Authority and the Office of Telecommunications Authority.

The Police say they will continue to tackle triad activities by curbing their income-generating sources.
