Bogus reports to Police land man in court
*
Hong Kong Police

Police have charged a 28-year-old man with two counts of wasteful employment of Police officers after he made two hoax robbery reports in Mong Kok. He will appear in North Kowloon Magistrates' Courts today.

The man was arrested on April 19 in a phone booth at 45 Tung Choi Street from where he made the second call.

At about 7pm on Monday, the man called Police claiming that a robbery occurred at a Chinese medicine shop in Mong Kok. He immediately hung up.

Police officers were sent to the shop's various branches in the district but found no robbery had taken place.

About 10 minutes later, the man called Police again, to report that a group of people had robbed several customers of a fast food shop on Sai Yeung Choi Street. Police quickly discovered this call was also a hoax.

A subscriber check showed that call was made from a phone booth at 45 Tung Choi Street where Police arrested the 28-year-old man.

Further investigations revealed that he made the first hoax report from another phone booth at 126A Tung Choi Street.

Under the Criminal Procedure Ordinance, it is an offence to make a false report which is punishable by a $2,000 fine and six months' in prison.
