*
Hong Kong Police

Police have arrested a 31-year-old man and seized 35kgs of cocaine worth about $35 million, the largest seizure of its kind with an arrest in Hong Kong.

Officers stopped the man as he was boarding a private car on Ki Lung Street, Mong Kok, about 2pm yesterday, and found a block of cocaine weighing about 1.2kgs in his possession.

A subsequent search in a Cedar Street flat led to the further seizure of 27 cocaine blocks weighing about 32.5kgs, a pack of cocaine power weighing 1.2kgs, 700 grams of ketamine, 200 ecstasy tablets and a large quantity of plastic bags.

The flat is believed to be a drug packaging and storage centre and the drugs are for local consumption.

The man has been charged with one count of trafficking in dangerous drugs and will appear in North Kowloon Magistracy tomorrow.
