Police respect press freedom and will continue to facilitate the media as far as possible in the coverage of incidents.

The force issued the statement in response to allegations reporters were also removed during today's clearance of protestors outside the Central Government Offices.

It said Police operations and actions are all conducted in accordance with the law. During public order events, it is force policy to facilitate press coverage as far as circumstances permit. This is also done on the basis that no undue hindrance will be caused to Police operations.

The media is free to cover Police actions, and this includes taking photographs and footage.

Police and reporters have been maintaining close co-operation under a spirit of mutual understanding, and it is hoped the press will respect that officers have a duty to carry out.
