Traffic accidents claim two lives

*
Hong Kong Police

Police are investigating after two traffic accidents in Yuen Long and Sham Shui Po yesterday afternoon killed a 22-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman.

Shortly before 6.30pm, a private reportedly ran out of control as it was travelling along Castle Peak Road towards Yuen Long, near Pok Wai South Road. It swerved into the Sheung Shui-bound carriageway and had a head-on collision with a heavy goods vehicle.

The 22-year-old car driver was trapped inside. Firefighters rescued him and he was rushed to North District Hospital with serious injuries. He was certified dead at 7.27pm.

Woman hit by public light bus in Sham Shui Po

At about 5pm, a public light bus travelling along Lai Chi Kok Road towards Mong Kok reportedly knocked down a 59-year-old woman as she crossed the road at the junction of Shek Kip Mei Street in Sham Shui Po.

She was rushed to Caritas Medical Centre with serious head injuries and certified dead at 9pm.

Investigations into both cases are proceeding. Anyone who has information to offer should call 2455 4224 and 2677 6299 for the Yuen Long case, and 2773 5220 for the Sham Shui Po case.
