Police urge caution in job hunting

Police are urging job seekers to be vigilant after 42 reports of deception involving about $143,000 were received from January last year to last month.

The culprits usually offered quick cash jobs through newspaper advertisements. Job seekers were asked to deposit handling charges ranging from $200 to $13,000 to different bank accounts before jobs were arranged. However, they could not contact the 'employer' after the transactions were made.

An operation in February saw a 28-year-old man arrested in Tsim Sha Tsui on March 1. He is being detained for questioning.

Police advise people to beware of such deception activities. Those who have been deceived by similar methods should contact Police on 2631 8418.
