Police have arrested a couple in the death of their five-month-old daughter who lost consciousness and later died in Caritas Medical Centre early yesterday morning. The mother has been charged with murder and the father with ill-treatment or neglect.
A 25-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman asked Police officers for help at the junction of Un Chau Street and Yen Chow Street while carrying their unconscious baby from their home on Un Chau Street to the hospital at around 2am.
They rushed her to Caritas Medical Centre where she was certified dead at 2.20am.
A post-mortem today revealed that her legs, right wrist and right forearm were broken. She also had bruises on her left arm.
The cause of her death has not yet been determined.
The Sham Shui Po District Crime Squad is investigating.
Dead baby found next to trash bin
Meanwhile, Police in Yau Tsim are looking into the case of an abandoned baby girl whose body was found inside a black plastic bag next to a trash bin in Yau Ma Tei.
A 28-year-old woman notified a Police officer on patrol when she spotted the bag at the junction of Jordan and Nathan Roads.
The officer found the infant's body wrapped in a towel underneath a doll inside the bag.
The baby's umbilical cord was still intact, and no superficial wounds were seen on the body. A post mortem will be carried out later today.
