The ICAC has charged a Judiciary bailiff for allegedly accepting $10,000 from an acquaintance for helping him apply for a job with a Judiciary-appointed security company.

Chan Wai-kei, 52, will appear at Eastern Magistracy at 9:30am tomorrow on one count of public servant accepting an advantage, contrary to Section 4(2)(a) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance.

At the time of the alleged offence, Chan was working at the Judiciary's Kowloon Regional Bailiff Office.

The charge alleges that on December 1, 2003, Chan, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, accepted $10,000 from an acquaintance.

Alleged bribe a reward for referral

The alleged bribe was said to be a reward for Chan to refer the man to a security company for applying for a job as security guard.

The Judiciary had appointed the company to look after properties seized on court orders on behalf of plaintiffs.
