Cheung Sha Wan arson suspect charged

A 55-year-old man suspected to be connected with the arson attack in Cheung Sha Wan last December leaving one man dead and 10 others injured has been charged.

 

Enquiries revealed that the suspect fled to the Mainland on the day of the incident.

 

With the assistance of the Guangdong Public Security Department and the Dongguan Public Security Bureau, the man was located in Zhang Mutou on Friday.

 

He was then returned to the Hong Kong Police at Huanggang Boundary Control Point. He is being detained for further enquiries and will appear in North Kowloon Magistrates' Courts this afternoon.

 

The arson took place at a leather factory in an industrial building on Lai Chi Kok Road at about 8pm on December 27 in which 11 men aged between 41 and 71 sustained burns.

 

The 71-year-old man died on December 30 and the case was  re-classified as murder.

 

Nine other men were still in different hospitals while a 52-year-old man was discharged.
