Lecturer charged with swindling university
*
ICAC

A senior lecturer has been charged by the ICAC for allegedly swindling $860,000 in housing allowances from the Chinese University.

Lau Ming-chu, 49, faces two counts of using a false document with intent to deceive. Her husband, Dicky Lam, 49, was also charged with two counts of aiding and abetting Lau in committing the alleged offences.

The couple, on bail, will appear in Sha Tin Magistracy tomorrow.

Lau is alleged to have used two allowance applications respectively on June 21, 1996 and June 22, 1998, for leased accommodation in Hong Lok Yuen, Tai Po, which contained a false, erroneous or defective statement, with intent to deceive the university.

The alleged false statement claimed the leased property was not owned by herself and/or her spouse, and that neither she, her spouse or their families had a financial interest in it.

ICAC enquiries allege that as a result of the false representations, Lau obtained allowances of $860,000.
