Former Liquor Licensing Board chairman Stephen Wong has been sentenced at District Court to a year in prison for misconduct in public office.
The defendant, 51, was found guilty of one count of misconduct in public office.
The court heard that Wong wilfully and intentionally misconducted himself between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2001 in relation to his public office as Liquor Licensing Board chairman.
He was accused of having discussions with liquor licence applicants and their agents before convening board meetings and providing internal documents to a third party improperly.
In sentencing, Judge Alan Wright said the most serious feature regarding the charge was that it involved a perversion of the defendant's office, as it displayed a substantial and corrupt deviation from the fidelity which was required and expected of a person in his position.
