In the wake of recent robberies, security in all post offices has been reviewed and enhanced.
Secretary for Economic Development & Labour Stephen Ip told legislators today that HK Post conducted the operation in consultation with Police.
Among the improvements:
* post offices with an 'open-counter' design have had glass screens installed;
* those with a conventional counter design, have had glass screens retrofitted; and,
* separate cashier cubicles have been installed at PayThruPost counters that handle large amounts of cash.
Mr Ip said for the safety of staff and clients, regular classroom training and briefing sessions for all counter staff is provided on robbery prevention and contingency arrangements.
After consultation with the Security Bureau, the Treasury has promulgated security guidelines to other bureaux and departments engaged in fee collection. They will also review security arrangements at their fee-collection counters.
