Police officer convicted for misconduct

*
ICAC

A Police Senior Superintendent has been convicted by the District Court for misconduct in his acceptance of free services from prostitutes.

Sin Kam-wah, 46, was found guilty of three counts of misconduct in public office.

Co-defendant businesswoman Lam Chuen-ip, 43, was convicted of three counts of offering an advantage to a Government servant, and three of exercising control over other people with a view to their prostitution.

Judge Saunders adjourned sentencing to December 8.

Sin and Lam were each granted cash bail of $20,000. They were also ordered to surrender all travel documents and not to leave Hong Kong.

The three misconduct charges stated that Sin had wilfully and intentionally culpably misconducted himself by accepting free sexual services from women whom he knew Lam was exercising control over.

Lam was found guilty of six offences. Three stated that she, while having dealings with the Government through the Police, had offered Sin an advantage in free sex from women over whom she was exercising control.

The remaining three stated that Lam had exercised control over women with a view to their prostitution.

The offences took place between March 2001 and May 2002.
