Police will re-organise its structure, simplify work procedures, set work priorities and contract-out some administrative tasks, like cleaning and translation.

Speaking on a radio talk show today, Deputy Commissioner of Police Dick Lee said the moves were necessary to meet budget cuts.

Mr Lee said although Police do not know how big the cuts will be, it is well prepared, targeting an 11% cut in five years.

In the past four years, Police have released recourses by combining its offices. Although the results have been good, the solution is not suitable for all districts, he said.

He admitted that pressure to cut resources may affect frontline manpower, but Police will try to maintain its high quality of public service.

Mr Lee also said Police are continuing investigations into fraud involving ATMs. It is working with the Monetary Authority on the issue.
