6-months' jail for babysitter employer

*
Immigration Department

A 37-year-old man has been jailed for six months by the Kowloon City Magistrates' Court for employing a Mainland visitor as a babysitter.

Mainlander Feng Canhua, during an interception by Police at Tin Shui Wai Estate on October 28, claimed she had been entrusted by Tang Kam-moon to take care of his two children.

Tang admitted employing Feng as a babysitter at $1,800 per month, with free meals and accommodation, and was aware she was a Mainland visitor holding a two-way permit.

Visitors are not allowed to take up employment in Hong Kong, paid or unpaid, without the department's prior permission. Offenders are liable to a maximum fine of $50,000 and imprisonment for two years.
