Smart ID change for people born in 1966-67
*

Identity-card holders who were born in 1966 or 1967 are required to apply for the new smart ID cards between November 17 and January 10.

Starting tomorrow, eligible applicants can book an appointment by calling 1838 333, via the ESDlife website, or at any ESD kiosk.

Eligible applicants should submit their applications in person at a Smart ID Card Centre.

If their ID cards bear the 'A' or '***' residential symbol, or their ID cards were issued on or after January 1, 1999 and bear the 'R' residential symbol, they only need to bring along their existing ID cards.

Other eligible applicants should bring along their travel documents showing their current residential status in Hong Kong, in addition to their existing ID cards.

190,000 applications received

ID cards holders who were born in 1968 or 1969 are required to apply for the new smart ID cards on or before November 15.

By October 30 about 190,000 applications had been received. Those who have not applied should do so as soon as possible to avoid the last-minute rush.

Applicants are advised to make an appointment. The Smart ID Card Centres are open from Monday to Saturday from 8am to 9.15pm and closed on Sundays and public holidays.

For more information on the ID card replacement exercise, please contact the Immigration Department on 2824 6111, or www.smartid.gov.hk.
