Fake find: Some of the $8.5 million worth of falsely-marked goods seized by Customs officers.

Customs officers have seized $8.5 million in falsely-marked goods from a container arriving from the Mainland.

During a cargo inspection at Kwai Chung Container Terminal on October 10, officers checked a 20-foot-long container imported by a river trade vessel from Huangpu.

More than 75,000 handbags, pens, wallets, watches and other goods, bearing forged trade marks or false origin labels, were found.

Investigations are ongoing and no arrests have been made.

Under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, anyone importing goods with forged trademarks or false trade descriptions is liable to a maximum penalty of a $500,000 and five years' imprisonment.
