315 netted in anti-triad operations
*
Hong Kong Police

Police arrested 315 people in a joint anti-crime operation concluded early this morning.

Police officers from Kowloon West Region, together with officers from the Immigration Department, Customs & Excise Department and Television & Entertainment Licensing Authority mounted the joint operation codenamed "Jawbone" at 7pm yesterday.

Forty-two men and 273 women, all two-way permit holders, were arrested for offences including illegal gambling, possession of dutiable cigarettes, obscene and pirated video compact discs, operating a divan and vice-related activities.

About $1 million worth of pirated or obscene video compact discs, 5,480 dutiable cigarettes, and a small quantity of dangerous drugs were seized in the raids.

Police stressed that similar operations would be mounted on a regular basis to stem triad-related activities in a bid to curb their sources of income.
