*

Police arrested 25 men and 32 women in anti-crime operations conducted in Kowloon West last night.

The aim of the operations is to stem triad-related activities and to curb their sources of income.

At about 6pm, Special Duty Squad officers, Yau Tsim District, raided two vice establishments at 15 Jordan Road and 240 Nathan Road and arrested a 51-year-old man and eight women, aged 20 to 33.

The eight women, all two-way-permit holders, were arrested for breaching conditions of stay.

Meanwhile, officers of Regional Anti-triad Unit, Kowloon West raided premises at 62 Yuen Chow Street, Sham Shui Po.

Five men and one woman, aged 14 to 49, were arrested after a quantity of suspected Ketamine and Ecstasy were seized.

Police believe the premises were used as a distribution centre supplying the suspected psychotropic drugs to nightclubs in the Kowloon West region.

At about 9.30pm, officers from Regional Crime Unit, Kowloon West raided an illegal gambling den at 395 Portland Street.

Ten men and 23 women, aged 27 to 73, were arrested for playing baccarat inside the flat.

A 30-year-old man was arrested for operating a gambling establishment while the others were arrested for illegal gambling.

In another operation, officers arrested nine men, aged 26 to 46, near Temple Street, Yau Ma Tei for selling illicit cigarettes and obscene VCDs.

Police said similar operations would be conducted on a regular basis to crack down on triad-related activities.
