Mainlander jailed for forgery

*
Immigration Department

A Mainlander has been jailed for possessing a forged HKSAR passport and identity card.

Lin Chuanwu, 35, pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistrate's Court today to one count of making a false representation to Immigration officer, one count of possessing a forged travel document and one count of possessing a forged identity card.

He was sentenced to six months' imprisonment on each charge - the sentences running concurrently.

Lin and another Mainlander were intercepted by Immigration investigators on September 19 when they attempted to board a plane for Canada. During a search, their Mainland travel documents were found.

Under caution, Lin admitted that the forged Hong Kong documents were arranged through middleman for job seeking in Canada. They entered Hong Kong on the strength of their Mainland travel documents on September 16 and said they were heading for Fuzhou when departing on September 19.

After entering the waiting lounge, they switched to another boarding gate in an attempt to board a plane to Canada.

The case of the other Mainland resident was adjourned to tomorrow.
