Two arrested in anti-piracy raid

*
Customs & Excise Department

Customs officers seized $500,000 worth of suspected pirated DVDs in a raid at Kwai Chung this afternoon.

Officers of the Special Task Force raided a flat at about 1.30pm, arresting a man, 35, and a woman, 54.

They shut down the makeshift factory and storage centre and seized about 15,000 software and game DVDs.

Initial investigations have revealed that the DVDs were to be sold in Mong Kok.

Under the Copyright Ordinance, anyone who knowingly possesses an item that infringes copyright in the course of business commits a criminal offence.

The maximum penalty for the offence is a fine of $50,000 per item and four years' jail.
