Police Commissioner Tsang Yam-pui says he is very concerned about recent incidents in which Police officers have been verbally abused.

Mr Tsang said he will watch developments closely to see if it is necessary to propose legislation enabling Police to prosecute such offenders.

He said the force is also very concerned about two murder cases involving illegally-imported firearms. Police will step up liaison with Mainland authorities on the matter.

There have been three cases involving the use of genuine guns this year so far, and eight last year.

Hong Kong has an average of 50 to 60 murder cases each year, which is still small compared to other places.

On the National Security Bill, Mr Tsang stressed: "The Police are not involved in politics. We will absolutely follow laws and procedures when carrying out our duties."

Mr Tsang said he is confident the mass procession on July 1 will proceed peacefully. He said Police have been liaising with the organiser and will have adequate resources to maintain law and order during the occasion.

Mr Tsang has served the force for over 37 years and will  retire later this year. He said he has "a very great sense of satisfaction" serving the Police.

He said the force has been strengthening the training of Police officers and their equipment in recent years.
